The city is surrounded by beautiful mountains and natural environment, has lovely rivers, and the local people are very friendly. The city consists of lots of interesting cultural and heritage sites together with an active night scene. Overall Chiang Mai is a very entertaining city and visitors enjoy staying for a while. In the past the pollution situation was a drawback that most people find unpleasant. Traffic and air pollution are quite obvious when one notices residents using face masks or wrapping clothing round their heads. The biggest contributors to the pollution situation is the Tuk-Tuks and the red truck taxi’s (rot-se-lor-daengs). Another contributor is the slash and burn policies that usually occurs during early March through to Early May. Month by month air pollution is monitoredThe pollution situation is monitored and for this past March were pretty good, it did not even reach 100! So if you are planning to visit Chiang Mai, check on the pollution website for the pollution situation in order to see when is the best time to visit and enjoy your time in this beautiful city.
